The Pantanal as it is referred to offers some of the best wildlife watching in the world with estimates indicating up to 1000 bird species, 400 fish species, 300 mammalian species and 480 reptile species. It is one of the best places to see the country’s national animal, the elusive Jaguar. The Pantanal is home to so many lifeforms thanks to its varied habitats including flood plains, forests, sand banks and savannahs. Part of the Pantanal was included as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2000.
